Letter from the Chairman of the PIANC British National Section

Dear Secretaries of the National Sections of PIANC,

POSTPONEMENT – PIANC Annual General Assembly- Bristol UK – May 2020

I am writing to advise you that, following discussions with PIANC headquarters in Brussels, the British National Section of PIANC has reluctantly decided to postpone the proposed Annual General Assembly in Bristol planned for May 2020. This decision has not been taken lightly. However, it is clear, from advice received from Brussels and from many other National Sections, that a very large number of delegates will not be able to attend because of restrictions placed on them by their organisations as direct result of the Covid-19 virus.

With the agreement of the Norwegian National Section it is the intention, subject to confirmation of the availability of the venues for the various events, to hold the AGA in Bristol in 2021 towards the end of May. The dates will be advised on the website as soon as arrangements are confirmed. On behalf of PIANC UK, I would like to thank PIANC Norge for readily agreeing to defer hosting the subsequent AGA in Oslo from 2021 until 2023. This will be a very great help to us i.n re-negotiating the arrangements,- ”Tusen takk, Norge”.

For those of you who have already booked for AGA 2020, we are happy either to cancel your booking and return your delegate fees in full or to hold the booking and the payment and transfer it to the proposed event next year, PIANC AGA – MMXXI – Bristol. If you have already booked for this year, please advise which option you would like to adopt by e-mailing enquiries@pianc2020.org

We have taken the decision at this time to ensure that as few delegates as possible have committed to their travel plans. If you have made reservations for accommodation for May 2020, please contact the hotel directly with a view to transferring the reservation to May 2021.

A year ago, I wrote that it gave me great pleasure, following the AGAs held in the Americas, East Asia and Australasia, to be able to invite you to return once more to Europe. That is still the case but, sadly, not until May 2021.

Yours sincerely,

Greg Haigh BSc C Eng, FICE
