Welcome Letter

Dear Secretaries of the National Sections of PIANC,

I am writing to invite you and your national delegates to attend the Annual General Assembly of PIANC in Bristol between the 19th and 21st May 2020. It gives me great pleasure, following the AGA’s held in the Americas, East Asia and Australasia, to be able to invite you to return once more to Europe.

We have selected the City of Bristol because it has a rich maritime history, it has a thriving port, and is at the edge of the highly attractive English ‘West Country’ and Wales. It has an airport with good European connections and is easily accessible by rail from London, elsewhere in the UK and northern mainland Europe.

The UK’s steering committee for PIANC AGA MMXX – Bristol, ably chaired by Nigel Bodell, has prepared a full programme for delegates, including a visit to The Bristol Port Company, and an interesting series of activities for partners which will include a visit to the UNESCO world heritage site of the City of Bath, just 20 kilometres away. The AGA dinner will be held on-board Brunel’s SS Great Britain, the world’s first iron hulled screw driven passenger vessel dating from 1845.

Please make a note of the dates, now, in your diaries. I, along with Nigel Bodell and Ian White, ExCom member and treasurer of PIANC, look forward to welcoming you to Bristol in May 2020.

Yours sincerely,

Greg Haigh BSc C Eng, FICE

Chairman – PIANC – British National Section
